Coronary Calcium Score

CAC Scoring  ·  15–20 Minute Appointment  ·  No Prep Required

A coronary calcium score is the fastest, most accessible cardiac risk test available. In 10 seconds of scanning, we measure calcium deposits in your coronary arteries — an early marker of plaque buildup that can predict your risk of a heart attack years before any symptoms appear.

Your score gives you and your doctor a number you can act on. A score of zero means very low risk. A high score means it's time to be proactive. Either way, knowing is better than not knowing — and at $199, there's no reason not to.

No IV. No contrast. No prep. No recovery. You arrive, scan for 10 seconds, and leave with a result the same day.

Who Should Get a Calcium Score
  • Adults aged 40–75 with intermediate cardiovascular risk
  • Anyone with a family history of early heart disease (parents or siblings before age 60)
  • Patients and doctors weighing whether to start cholesterol medication
  • Diabetic patients — annual cardiovascular risk assessment
  • Health-conscious adults who want a cardiac baseline for preventive care
  • Anyone who wants to know their number

Cardiology Consultation

New Patient & Established Visit  ·  45–60 Minutes

A cardiology consultation with Dr. Akel is a comprehensive evaluation of your heart health. Whether you're experiencing symptoms, managing a chronic condition, or preparing for surgery, you get the full depth of a fellowship-trained imaging cardiologist — not a physician's assistant, not a fellow.

An EKG is performed at every visit. If additional imaging is needed, it can often be performed the same day. Dr. Akel answers every question you bring — write them down before you come.

Conditions We Evaluate & Manage
  • Chest pain and pressure — evaluation and management
  • Shortness of breath and dyspnea on exertion
  • Palpitations and arrhythmia evaluation
  • Hypertension — specialist management
  • High cholesterol and lipid risk stratification
  • Heart failure monitoring and management
  • Syncope (fainting) and near-syncope

Echocardiogram

Transthoracic Echo (TTE) & Stress Echo  ·  Physician-Read Same Day

An echocardiogram uses sound waves to create real-time images of your heart — its chambers, valves, and pumping function. At Apex Heart & Imaging, every echocardiogram is performed and interpreted by Dr. Akel personally. The same cardiologist who ordered your echo is the one reading it.

Hospital rate for the same echocardiogram: $800–$2,000+. Our cash-pay rate is $399 — and you get your results the same day.

Types We Offer
  • Transthoracic echocardiogram (TTE) — Standard resting echo. Evaluates heart function, valve disease, wall motion abnormalities, and chamber size.
  • Stress echocardiogram — Echo before and after exercise or pharmacologic stress. Detects coronary artery disease that only appears under cardiac stress. More sensitive than a standard stress EKG.

Cardiac MRI Interpretation
CMR · Insurance Covered · Cardiologist-Level Read

Cardiac MRI is the gold standard for evaluating heart muscle health, cardiomyopathy, myocarditis, and viability after a heart attack. Dr. Akel provides cardiologist-level CMR interpretation — a service that most private practices cannot offer because it requires subspecialty imaging training.

If your hospital or cardiologist has ordered a cardiac MRI and needs a specialist interpretation, we provide primary reads and second opinions for referring facilities.

Note for referring physicians: Dr. Akel accepts remote CMR read contracts from hospitals and imaging centers. Contact us for details.
