His Story

Why Dr. Akel Built Apex Heart & Imaging

Dr. Akel is a board-certified cardiologist with fellowship subspecialty training in non-invasive cardiac imaging — including coronary CT angiography, cardiac MRI interpretation, and echocardiography. He founded Apex Heart & Imaging because he believed Columbus patients deserved access to academic medical center-quality cardiac imaging without the wait times, the institutional complexity, or the distance from home.

The problem he set out to solve is specific: most patients referred for cardiac CT or echocardiography in Columbus wait four to six weeks for an appointment, have their scan read by a general radiologist or fellow who has never met them, and receive a report that arrives days later at their referring physician's office — with no direct physician contact if the findings are concerning.

At Apex Heart & Imaging, Dr. Akel reads every scan personally. The same cardiologist who sees you interprets your imaging. Results are delivered the same day. If there is anything urgent, he calls your doctor directly.
